Gibsons Landing Jazz Festival
The 17th annual Gibsons Landing Jazz festival will be taking place from June 8 – June 10. This is a volunteer run community festival presented by the Sunshine Coast Jazz and Entertainment Society.
The week prior to the festival weekend will be 'Jazz Week'. Enjoy a full week of live music in local restaurants and other venues. Jazz week promotes the talented musicians on the Sunshine Coast and is a great warm up to the weekend festival.
Last year’s event saw some great local performers including Definitely Diva, Mimosa, Jodi Proznick Trio, Cory Weeds Quintet, Don Ross & Brooke Miller, Dalannah Gail Bowen & the Sojourners, Tanga,Creek Big Band,Sunday Brunch, Black Strap Melissas, Steve Giltrow Quartet and Katherine Penfold.
You can also expect workshops, dances and a Sunday brunch. Venues for the festival include Dougall Park, Robert Creeks Hall and at the festival site in Gibsons. Bring your friends and family and enjoy this great weekend on the Sunshine Coast!

With the arrival of spring comes the arrival of the Farmers Gate Market. Now in its fifth year the farmers market convenes every Wednesday from 3 to 6 p.m. outside of Roberts Creek Hall.
The market provides a place for local vendors to gather and sell their goods. This laid back setting allows community members and visitors a chance to meet in a friendly and fun setting. The market is a great place to find local organic produce, eggs, baked goods, preserves and much more. You can also find local made art, jewellery and trinkets on for sale.

This year's Farm Gate Farmers Market has partnered with the Farmer's Market Nutrition and Coupon (FMNCP) program. The FMNCP provides low-income families and seniors with coupons they can spend at their local farmer's market.

So come by and join us every Wednesday and experience new events every week such as: local musicians, cooking demonstrations and various children's activities. The farmer's market is a great way to help the environment and support your local producers.

Home beer brewer and local Gibsons resident Jeff Hay Roe has crafted a beer fit to be poured alongside the best home brews in Canada. Jeff recently entered a competition run by the Alibi Room, Howe Sound Brewing and VanBrewers that was seeking out the best home brew beer around.
The Alibi Room located on Main Street and East 6th in downtown Vancouver specializes in the best home brews Canada has to offer. To honour the 400th tap rotation the Alibi put out a calling for Canada's best home brews. Hundreds entered including the Sunshine Coasts Hay-Roe who was selected as one of the few brews to be featured on tap.
Winning the competition means Jeff's brew called London Town Brown Ale, will have a 2,000 litre batch brewed by Howe Sound Brewing.
“I’m pretty excited. It’s quite an honour,” Hay-Roe said.
In addition to being featured at the downtown pub Jeff says Howe Sound Brewing may make a couple of cases available here on the Coast.
“One of the owners of Howe Sound Brewing told me they will probably be able to get some cases of the bottled beer to the Blackfish and Lighthouse private liquor stores,” Hay-Roe said.
So keep your eyes and ears open next time you walk through the liquor store as Jeff's locally created product may be hitting a self near you.]]>

Sunshine Coast Singers Christmas Concert
The Sunshine Coast Art crawl takes place October 18 - 20. Over 110 participating galleries and art studios from Langdale to Lund are participating in this year's event. We invite visitors and locals to come out and take in all of the wonderful art the Sunshine Coast has inspired.
There was over 9000 studio visits last year a number they hope to eclipse this year. The 31st annual Sunshine Musical Festival takes place Labour Day Weekend of 2012 (September 1 & 2). The festival brings together different sounds from across this great country and some amazing local acts.
This festival is a perfect way to end the summer and offers amazing music set to the backdrop of the beautiful Palm Beach Park on Waterfront Street.
The open-air event is held on the shores of beautiful Lund Harbour. There, visitors can sample fresh cooked seafood, watch cooking demonstrations and buy fresh seafood. Local artisans will also be selling their wares at the bay. As well, tour companies will be on hand to help festival attendees better explore the area by land and sea.
Where exactly is Lund?
Located just two-and-a-half hours north of Gibsons, Lund is a great destination for a day-trip when visiting the Sunshine Coast or a weekend getaway if you’re coming from Vancouver. If you’re travelling via BC Ferries’ Horseshoe Bay terminal, you’ll proceed north on Highway 101 along the Sechelt Peninsula to Earl’s Cove. Once at Earl’s Cove, you’ll board another ferry (no-charge) to Powell River. From there you’ll continue travelling north to the end of the road, literally “Mile 0” of the Pacific Coastal Highway to arrive at the village of Lund.
Visiting after the festival?
Don’t worry, the shellfish will still be around, but they’ll be served up in places like The Boardwalk Restaurant, The Laughing Oyster and The Historic Lund Hotel. Despite its tiny population — 243 people at last count — Lund is a little town with a lot of heart and a burgeoning tourism industry. With more than a dozen BB’s, a hotel and campgrounds, there’s no shortage of places to stay to take part in some of the greatest outdoor recreation the Pacific Northwest has to offer. Fishing, boating (including kayaking and canoeing) and scuba diving are among the area’s most popular recreational activities with chartered tours readily available.]]>
