As the end of the summer approaches, those of us living on the coast with kids are excited about returning to school.

There are a number of Elementary and Secondary schools on the Sunshine Coast.

Schools are located in Langdale, Gibsons, Roberts Creek, Sechelt, Madeira Park and Pender Harbour.

If you'd like to come over and check out the schools before you move to the Sunshine Coast here are a few choices for different forms of transportation available.

If you're looking to get over to the coast, check the schedule from BC Ferries.

Once on the Sunshine Coast, you'll want to get around. The bus is easy to catch, affordable and will take you from one end to the other in a reasonable amount of time.

Sunshine Coast Arts

August 1 – 7 hosts the Sechelt Festival of the Arts. Come check out local artists and venues.

Langdale hosts Synchronicity- The Festival on August 7 – 8.

This is a unique performance and exhibition in the woods.

Don’t miss out on the masks, music, puppetry, poetry, stories, art and food. Guaranteed fun for the whole family.

Sunshine Coast Festival of the Written Arts on August 12 – 15 at the Rockwood Center in Sechelt hosts some of Canada’s best literary talent.

Sunshine Coast Live Music

This year the famous 6 String Nations Guitar will be travelling with the festival.

Speaking of guitars, do you play? Songwriters in the (Wild) Round takes place on August 18 from 7 – 9pm at The Wild Bistro in Gibsons.

This night is for song writers of all levels and experiences so come out and have some fun.

Garlic lovers around the coast can gather at the Pender Harbour Lions Club Garlic Festival. August 28 – 29. Starts at 10 am.

Check out the Sunshine Coast BC this summer and enjoy the variety of events happening in July.

On Canada Day weekend visit the Pender Harbour Area for the Malaspina Regatta . The Garden Bay Sailing Club hosts this regatta where all classes and sizes of sailboats compete for trophies.

Saturday afternoons in July direct us to the Gambier Community Centre to enjoy their Arts and Ideas Series running from 12:30-4:00pm.

Gibsons Jazz Festival runs until July 13, so don’t miss out on the musical festivities around town this month.

July 23-25 hosts Gibsons 42nd Sea Cavalcade so come and enjoy the parade and family fun to be had this weekend.

In Sechelt you can enjoy the Sechelt Farmers and Artisans Market every Saturday in July and it opens bright and early at 8:30am.

Sechelt also hosts their festival on July 30 and 31.

How To Get To The Sunshine Coast BC

So you want to come and see why the Sunshine Coast is the best place in BC?

It can be slightly confusing to those who haven't been here.

The only way to get here is by boat or plane, but the Sunshine Coast BC is not an island!

We are part of the mainland, but due to the inlets and mountains, the only way to get here is by sea or air.

Getting to the Sunshine Coast from Vancouver is usually done by taking BC Ferries from Horseshoe Bay to Langdale.

Upon arrival in Langdale, you can then set forth up the coast through the communities of Gibsons, Roberts Creek, Sechelt, Halfmoon Bay, Pender Harbour and Egmont.

To find out when your next ferry sailing to the Sunshine Coast will be, take a look at the BC Ferries Sunshine Coast route schedule.

Before heading out to the ferry, be sure to check the current conditions and total deck space committed for sailings from Horseshoe Bay to Langdale or on the way back from from Langdale to Horseshoe Bay.

On Sunday April 11th 2010, join over 500 participants as they make their way from sunny Gibsons to picturesque Sechelt.

Run, jog or walk the 21.1 Km / 13.1 mile point to point, net downhill course at your own pace and enjoy the ocean and mountain scenery and friendly atmosphere.

Get here the day before the race for the Pre-race Pasta Dinner Saturday, April 10th which is available at local participating restaurants.

There will be delicious baked goods, yogurt and fruit from Marketplace IGA along with coffee, tea and other refreshments to fill your tank after the long-standing, traditional half-marathon and relay.

Be there at the finish line for all of the cool post-race entertainment

It will be time to party once you cross the finish line because Bruce "Iron Canuck" Bauman will be announcing again while DJ Astrid returns for the third year to play the tunes. There will even be free massages at the finish line from Peak Performance Chiropractic.
