The 17th annual Gibsons Landing Jazz festival will be taking place from June 8 – June 10. This is a volunteer run community festival presented by the Sunshine Coast Jazz and Entertainment Society.

The week prior to the festival weekend will be 'Jazz Week'. Enjoy a full week of live music in local restaurants and other venues. Jazz week promotes the talented musicians on the Sunshine Coast and is a great warm up to the weekend festival.

Last year’s event saw some great local performers including Definitely Diva, Mimosa, Jodi Proznick Trio, Cory Weeds Quintet, Don Ross & Brooke Miller, Dalannah Gail Bowen & the Sojourners, Tanga,Creek Big Band,Sunday Brunch, Black Strap Melissas, Steve Giltrow Quartet and Katherine Penfold.

You can also expect workshops, dances and a Sunday brunch. Venues for the festival include Dougall Park, Robert Creeks Hall and at the festival site in Gibsons. Bring your friends and family and enjoy this great weekend on the Sunshine Coast!

Every May long weekend on the Sunshine Coast is an event that is not to be missed. The Attack of Danger Bay is an epic longboard race that takes place at Pender Harbour. Longboarding can trace its origins back to California in the 50's and is also known as sidewalk surfing.

Coast Longboarding hosts this annual event in Pender Harbour each year. Attack of Danger Bay is one of the world largest longboarding weekends. Competitors from around the globe come to this event to longboard on the Sunshine Coast.

This is a great spectator sport and there will be lots of other fun events happening over the weekend including Saturday slide competition, longboard parade, longboard hockey game and strikers cash.

May 20th is race day and May 23rd is the Jakes Rash Revenge Race. On Sunday evening there will be an awards ceremony taking place at the Madeira community hall. Attack of Danger Bay is a family event and everyone is welcome to watch.

At the northern end of Highway 101 on the Sunshine Coast is the small fishing village of Lund. The Sunshine Coast April Fool’s run is known for its friendly West Coast hospitality, low entry fee, scenic route, finisher's medals and unique award. Last year saw 640 registered with 539 finishers including relays and walkers.

The night before the race you can experience an unofficial pre-race carbo-load dinner, at local participating restaurants. These restaurants include the Waterfront Restaurant, Blackfish Pub, The Gumboot Restaurant and the Sirens by the Sea Steakhouse.

The run starts at 9am start and there is an early 8am start for walkers and 3hr+ runners only. Visitors can take 7:20am ferry from Horseshoe Bay to Langdale, or fly with Westcoast Air/Harbour Air. Alternately arrive on Friday or Saturday and stay for the weekend and enjoy the beautiful Sunshine Coast. The official race hotel is The Cedars Inn Hotel & Convention Centre in Gibsons. The Sunshine Coast offers 80 kms of pristine coastline. Divers can enjoy beautiful mountain-scapes, surface intervals on tranquil beaches and spectacular marine life. There are many different types of dives available including shipwrecks, high current drift diving and there are plentiful dive sites available for every skill level.

Divers return to the Sunshine Coast again and again to dive as the visibility is incredible all year round. The water is crystal clear and unpolluted. The Sunshine Coast is popular for both boat and shore dives.

One of the most popular dives site on the Sunshine Coast is the Skookumchuck Narrows. Though this is the most famous dive site, however it is only recommended for experience divers. There is abundant sea life at this site due to high tidal exchange. This dive only available during slack tides.

The Sunshine Coast is also home to a great wreck dive. The 366' foot wreck of the HMCS Chaudiere was sunk in 1992 by the Artificial Reef Society of British Columbia. It was placed to make a habitat for marine life and a place for divers to play on an otherwise featureless bottom. The wreck is home to huge resident ling cod.

The Pender Harbour Music Society is pleased to present a special performance on Sunday February 12th at 2.00pm. Pianist Linda Lee Thomas, "Chamber Musician Supreme," and bandoneonist Jonathan Goldman of the Legendary Canadian group "Quartango," will be performing at the Pender Harbour School of Music. This unforgettable duo will be bringing tango to West Coast audiences.

Since 1972, Linda Lee Thomas has been the principal pianist of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and the Vancouver Radio Orchestra. In 2000, she was inducted into the B.C. Entertainment Hall of Fame for her outstanding contributions to the industry. She has become Canada's foremost tango musician.

Boats from marinas and private docks around the Sechelt Inlet will light up for this annual event. The boats will gather in front of the Lighthouse Pub and then take a roundtrip cruise out to Tuwanek and back to Porpoise Bay. Traditional Christmas Carols will be ringing loud and clear from the coastal towboat “Kinnaird” which is the lead vessel for this event.

This is a free event and is family friendly. You can enjoy this magical display at any local beach. The best location to watch the boats is at the Provincial Park Beach in Porpoise Bay. There will also be a bonfire at the boat launch in Sandy Hook.

Woodland Christmas

The Sunshine Coast Botanical Garden Society is pleased to host a “Woodland Christmas” on Saturday, December 4th from 3,30pm to 6pm . Enjoy the winter wonderland in the in the Sparling Pavilion at the Sunshine Coast Botanical Garden. There will be music, refreshments, and a visit with more than a dozen Santa’s! Around sunset there will be a tree-lighting ceremony followed by songs from the Arbutus Sounds Chorus. At the end of the day there will be Christmas carols around the bonfire.

This is a great event for families, friends and kids. The children will be able to make a holiday craft and there will be a story time with Grandma June.

This will also be a great place to buy Christmas gifts including calendars, pottery, living wreaths, preserves and home baking. All proceeds will go to the Sunshine Coast Botanical Garden Society.
